Best Advertisement . . .

We are learning to analyse text to identify examples of ethos, pathos and logos.

Reading analysis: Best Advertisement Ever

Persuasive strategy
Yes / No
How the author used it?
Claim – States the main
point or stance
Yes
The producer intelligently obtained our attention by making us think about what we can do to help those who are in need. As the advertisement plays the subtitles are shown not only to make us read but to make us think about the actions that the main character is displaying and how we can act in the same way. The details that are shown in the video show the thoughtfulness and generosity that the main character improvises.
Big Names –  Mentions experts and
important people to support the argument
No

Ethos – Tries to build trust and credibility
Yes
The six characters, and the one dog are all people that the main character visits everyday. The witnesses in the advertisement doubt him and think to themselves ‘What is he doing’ and ‘What does he get in return’. Not only was this video made to entertain but it was made to show people that there are a lot of people suffering because they have no food to eat and shelter to keep themselves warm. These situations are very important, because not only children but adults can die from hypothermia by living outside in the cold especially when it’s raining.
Pathos – Appeals to the audience’s emotions
Yes
Sadness was the main emotion that was shown in the clip. The video shows how sad and hard it must’ve been for the little girl and her mother suffering with no food and no home to sleep in and they're still alive. Not only does this video show sadness but it also shows how heartbreaking it would have been for all those suffering for poverty. The background music that was played was not only soothing but it was full of sadness.
Logos – Uses logic, numbers, or  facts to support the argument

No

Kairos – Builds a sense of urgency  for the cause
Yes
There were a lot of causes in the video clip. It shows us that a lot of children have to live their lives with not only food, water and shelter but they have to suffer with no education. All children need an educational life. Without no education children won’t have a bright future.
Research – Uses studies and
information to make the
argument seem more convincing;  this can be in the form of words, graphs, tables, or illustrations.
No
