We are learning to work with unit of mass, volume, time and money.
- *Joan and Dave harvest a total of 1200 kg of olives from their groves.
- Is Charlotte correct? No
- Why? Because they have 600 trees and each of those trees and each of those trees produce 20 kg of olives.
- Operation needed? Multiplication
- How? I took out the knots from 600 and 20 and we’ll have 6 and 2. We multiply the 6 and the 2 which gives us 12. You then add the nauts. (e.g 12000)
- Answer: 12000
2) * The olives from 2 trees fit into 1 bin.
- Is Charlotte correct? No
- Why? Because each tree produces 20 kg and the bins are 10 kg. Charlotte says that 2 trees can fit into one bin.
- Operation needed? Adition.
- How? We add the 20 together which equals 40. 40 kg can’t fit onto a 10 kg bin.
3) If they had to store all their harvested olives, Dave and Joan would need 1 2000 bins.
- Is Charlotte correct? Yes *
- Why? Because you have to divide 12000 by 10
- Operation Needed? Division
- How? 10 Divide by 12000 = 1200
4) In an 8 hour day, the press can process 2 000 kg of olives.
- Is Charlotte Correct? Yes *
- Why? Because I multiplied 250 by 8
- Operation Needed? Multiplication
- How? 250 X 8 which equals 2 000
5)* It takes 8 days to process Dave and Joan's olives.
- Is Charlotte Correct? No
- Why? Because I multiplied 24 by 250 because it said on the activity that the press can hold up to 250 kg an hour. Then I divided 8 by 6000 which gave me 750.
6) If all 10 growers in Joan and Dave’s group have the same sized groove, each produces 1 440 L of oil.
- Is Charlotte correct? No /
- Why? Because it said that Joan and Dave are on of 10 growers who share that press and on that year they have all produces 14400 L of oil.
7) Joan and Dave’s olives produce 5 760 bottles of oil.
- Is Charlotte Correct?
